   Fill to ¾

   Leave room for the ice to expand as it freezes.

   Freeze solid

   A full freeze makes firm cubes that hold their shape.

   Rest 3–5 min

   Let the tray sit on the counter. This is the step most people skip.

   Lift the lever

   The cubes release cleanly — no forcing, no banging, no stuck ice.

That short rest on the counter is the whole trick: it loosens the cubes from the steel so the lever does the work for you.
